President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Nigeria, arriving in Lagos on Tuesday after concluding his extended working vacation in Europe.

The President touched down at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, where he was received by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other dignitaries. His arrival was also reported by the Presidency and contemporaneous news reports.

Tinubu’s return brings to an end a stay abroad that began on August 30, when he departed Abuja for London as part of his annual leave. He subsequently travelled to Paris, where he combined the vacation with official engagements.

The President’s arrival in Lagos was confirmed by his Special Assistant on Social Media, Olusegun Dada, who announced on X, “Landing. Welcome home Mr President!”

Rather than returning immediately to Abuja, Tinubu is expected to remain in Lagos for official and political engagements in the coming days.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President is scheduled to meet with political leaders and associates as preparations for the 2027 elections continue.

“While in Lagos, President Tinubu will also hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates over several days in preparation for the 2027 elections,” the statement read.

The Presidency had earlier said Tinubu’s decision to return through Lagos was also connected to his plans to honour the memory of the late Chief MKO Abiola, the winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election and a major figure in Nigeria’s democratic struggle.

Tinubu is expected to participate in activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary on October 1 and attend the premiere of a movie commemorating Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos.

During his time in Paris, the President held high-level engagements, including a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron. He also met businessman Vincent Bolloré and other investors as part of the official activities conducted during his stay.

The Presidency had described the trip as a working vacation and said Tinubu remained in contact with officials at home and continued directing the affairs of government while abroad.

The President is expected to continue his engagements in Lagos before returning to Abuja.
