A fire outbreak has gutted parts of an Access Bank branch in Dawanau, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State. Also, another fire incident damaged a residential building in Kumbotso LGA.

The incidents, which occurred separately on Monday, were confirmed by the spokesperson of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusif, in a statement issued on Tuesday.

According to Yusif, the first incident was reported at about 1:17 pm after the agency received a distress call from one Michael, alerting the emergency response unit to a fire outbreak at the Access Bank branch in Dawanau.

He said firefighters from the Dawanau Fire Station immediately mobilised to the scene, where they found a one-storey building, measuring about 100 by 80 feet, being used as the bank’s branch.

“The fire engulfed one Mikano generator, which was well alight, and one electrical transformer, which was slightly alight,” Yusuf said.

He added that the firefighters successfully contained the blaze and prevented it from spreading to other sections of the bank building.

Yusif said the cause of the fire was yet to be established, as investigations were ongoing.

In a separate incident at about 6:19 pm, the Emergency Call Centre received a distress call from Ahmad Mainama regarding a fire at Sabuwar Gandu, Sheka Gari, in the Kumbotso Local Government Area.

Firefighters from the Sharada Industrial Area Fire Station were immediately deployed to the area, where they found a ground-floor residential building measuring approximately 40 by 30 feet on fire.

The fire affected two bedrooms, a parlour and a kitchen before it was brought under control by the firefighters.

Yusif said the operation was carried out using one jet from the Commando 3, Sharada Fire Truck, supported by two additional jets from nearby factories.

He said the cause of the residential building fire was also under investigation.

The Director of the agency, Alhaji Sani Anas, appealed to residents to remain vigilant and adopt proactive measures to prevent fire outbreaks.

He also urged members of the public to equip their homes with functional fire extinguishers and strictly observe appropriate fire-safety measures.
