The Imo State governor, Hope Uzodinma has disclosed that governors under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will kick off their campaigns immediately, following the return of President Bola Tinubu to the country from his vacation.

Uzodinma, who is chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF) as well as secretary of the Presidential Campaign Council stated this on Sunday in Lagos after visiting the President.

He said the APC governors would commence campaigns “immediately” following Tinubu’s return.

Uzodimma, who met Tinubu at his Lagos residence, said he briefed the president on developments in the country during his absence and the activities of APC governors.

He said the meeting also reviewed efforts by the PGF to communicate the achievements and policies of the administration to Nigerians ahead of the commencement of political mobilisation.

“The President has just come back from a working leave. And while he was away, we were working in Nigeria. And it is only fair that he is briefed on the happenings in the country and an interim report given to him as to the issues on ground,” Uzodimma said.

“I came and briefed him. We had a very quality conversation, and he is now aware of the things that happened while he was away and the efforts of the governors in the Progressive Governors’ Forum in making sure that Nigerians are properly aware of the achievements of his government and the policies.

“We referred straight to our campaign outing, which will start almost immediately since he is now back.”

The PGF chairman said the governors had taken their cue from Tinubu’s Independence Day broadcast and would focus not only on promoting the administration’s reforms but ensuring that Nigerians directly experienced their benefits.

According to him, the reform programmes had moved beyond implementation to the stage where the gains must translate into improved living conditions for citizens.

“We have already taken cue from that broadcast, and that is exactly what we are doing. The reform policy has moved from implementation to ensuring that the people of Nigeria get the dividends of the reform policy itself,” he said.

He said APC governors would be required to demonstrate the impact of the reforms at the grassroots.

“So we are not going to only sit here and sing the songs of reform. We will make sure the real beneficiaries of the reform policy are the people. That the masses will feel the impact,” he said.
