Spanish footballer dies after collision with keeper (Video)
A 30-year-old Spanish football player, Jesus de Miguel Alameda has been reported dead following a collision with an opposing goalkeeper during a match.
His club, CD Tenerife, made the announcement on Tuesday in a statement, saying the tragedy happened during a match against FC Andorra.
The club said the player died at 8am local time, describing the development as a tragedy that had left the club, his family and supporters devastated.
“Broken in pain, with a knot in the throat and unable to believe this is true, from the CD Tenerife we communicate the tragic death, this Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 8:00 hours, of Jesus de Miguel Alameda,” the statement read.
“There are no words of comfort; there is absolutely nothing to mitigate this feeling of sorrow. We are together with his heartbroken family, together with his loved ones, together with all the Tinerfenism that today cries for this cruel outcome,” it added.
The club also said De Miguel’s family appreciated the messages of support received since the incident but appealed for respect for their privacy during the period of mourning.
The 30-year-old suffered the fatal injury during Tenerife’s Spanish second-division encounter against FC Andorra on Monday at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López Stadium.
The incident occurred in the closing stages of the match when De Miguel collided with Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono while both players challenged for a loose ball.
The striker collapsed unconscious following the impact, prompting players from both teams to call for immediate medical assistance.
Owono was shown a straight red card following the incident.
Medical personnel attended to De Miguel on the pitch before he was taken to the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria by ambulance.
He reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest during the emergency transfer but was resuscitated by medical personnel, who restored his pulse.
He remained unconscious and was admitted to the intensive care unit.
Tenerife had earlier announced that his neurological condition had deteriorated before confirming his death hours later.
The match was subsequently abandoned in the 108th minute with both sides level at 2-2 following the incident.
Here is Jesús Owono’s reaction after his tackle on Jesús de Miguel:
– He was heading straight down the tunnel because he knew it was a red-card offence, which he was shown on the spot.
– His teammate even went over to greet him for the tackle, not realizing how serious the situation was.
– He rushed back immediately when he realized the severity of the situation.
It was a reckless tackle, and the consequences are heartbreaking. But we must remember that none of these players goes onto the pitch intending to take the life of a fellow player.
