The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has again declared former Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina, wanted.

The commission said the 61-year-old former government official is wanted over an alleged case of receiving stolen property.

The EFCC announced the development in a wanted notice published on its X account and signed by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale.

According to the commission, Maina is an indigene of Biu, Borno State, and members of the public are being asked to assist investigators in locating him.

“The public is hereby notified that Abdularasheed Abdullahi Maina, whose photograph appears above, is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in an alleged case of receiving stolen property,” the commission said.

The anti-graft agency provided several of its offices where information about Maina’s whereabouts could be reported.

“Anybody with useful information as to his whereabouts should please contact the Commission in its Ibadan, Uyo, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Benin, Makurdi, Kaduna, Ilorin, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, Port Harcourt or Abuja offices,” it added.

The EFCC also asked anyone with relevant information to contact the agency through its designated telephone line or email address, info@efcc.gov.ng

It further encouraged members of the public to report information to the nearest police station or other security agencies.

The commission’s latest notice did not disclose the details of the alleged stolen property case, including the nature of the property involved or when the alleged offence occurred.

Maina has previously faced prolonged legal battles over allegations involving pension funds. In November 2021, the Federal High Court in Abuja convicted him of money laundering offences and sentenced him to eight years in prison. The Court of Appeal subsequently upheld the conviction and sentence in May 2023.

He had earlier been declared wanted after failing to appear for trial in the pension-related case and was eventually arrested in Niger Republic in 2019 before being brought back to Nigeria to face proceedings.

The Nigerian Correctional Service later confirmed that Maina was released on February 25, 2025, after qualifying for statutory remission based on good conduct in custody.

The latest wanted notice therefore places Maina back in the spotlight as the EFCC seeks information that could assist it in locating him in connection with the new allegation.
