No fewer than four people have been killed by suspected Boko Haram insurgents in Biturhuya village, Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

The Chairman of the Hong Local Government Council, Aliyu Sa’ad Yerima, confirmed the killings, saying the insurgents also set several houses ablaze during the attack.

Yerima said the attack occurred a few weeks after a similar incident in a neighbouring community, leaving residents in constant fear of further attacks.

According to him, the attackers arrived in the community on motorcycles between 5pm and 6pm, when residents were resting ahead of the weekend and preparing for activities planned for the following week.

He said the attackers opened fire on the residents, killing four people and setting several houses ablaze.

The council chairman visited the community to commiserate with the bereaved families and assured residents of the government’s commitment to protecting their lives and property.

Yerima vowed to take aggressive measures to tackle security threats across the local government area, stressing his commitment to restoring lasting peace throughout Hong.

He also urged residents to promptly alert security agencies to the movements of suspicious persons and expose suspected informants operating within their communities.

“Any individuals found harbouring criminals, collaborating with insurgents, or sabotaging local peace would face the full wrath of the law,” Yerima warned.

The council chairman further appealed to the Federal and Adamawa State governments to urgently strengthen security operations in the area and take decisive measures to permanently neutralise the threat and protect rural communities.
